Place des Vosges
Paris' original attempt at urban planning, the Place des Vosges (originally named the Place Royale) is now its oldest square. It was built under Henri IV from 1605 to 1612.
The King's Pavilion is the southern gateway to the square.
Canal Saint Martin
A mythic site par excellence with its Hotel du Nord, made famous in Marcel Carné’s film, the Saint Martin Canal is a delightful place to stroll.
There you can walk, read or rest…
…or watch the barges go by…
…manoeuvring in the lock…
…to carry on with their journey...
...towards the Arsenal harbour, close to the Bastille Square.
Place de la Bastille
If you are fond of Rossini, Verdi or Puccini, you will find the new opera house on the Place de la Bastille.
If you cannot stand Richard Wagner nor Alban Berg, don’t worry...
...there is always a seat at one of the Bastille cafés…
… to watch the sun setting on the July column.
